The Black Seed
is scientifically known as Nigella Sativa, the
herd grows about 16-24 inches in height. From it
comes a small rectangular Black Seed whic h
is also known as the Blessed Seed (Arab: Habbat
ul Baraka, or Habbat ul Sauda).
The
ancient Egyptians knew and used the Black Seed
and described it as a panacea (cure for
problems/disease). The Romans also knew this
seed and called it Greek Coriander. Documented
by the Greek physician of the 1st century,
Dioscoredes, as an ailment for general health
problems such as toothaches, headaches and was
mainly used as a dietary supplement.
Black Seed has a stabalising effect on
the Human Immune System which combats diseases
that are a product of defective immune systems.
So if the immune system is maintained, then the
over all effect on the rest of the body can be
felt.
A
prophetic Medicine as recommended 1400
years ago by the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon
Him). In his divine wisdom he said - "Use the
Black Seed for indeed, it is a cure for all
diseases except death. Sahih Bukari
7:591
The Black
Seed has been known and used throughout many
cultures for over two thousand years.
Avicenna, most famous for his volumes
called The Canon of Medicine, refers to nigella
as the seed that stimulates the body's energy
and helps recovery from fatigue and
dispiritedness.
The seeds
have been traditionally used in the Middle East and Southeast Asian countries to treat
ailments including asthma, bronchitis,
rheumatism and related inflammatory diseases, to
increase milk production in nursing mothers, to
promote digestion and to fight parasitic
infections. Its oil has been used to treat skin
conditions such as eczema and boils and to treat
cold symptoms. Its many uses have earned nigella
the Arabic approbation 'Habbatul barakah',
meaning the seed of blessing.
The very fact that Black Seed targets
the vital wor kings
of the immune system grants it power over a wide
range of ailments, both as a treatment and
preventative. Consequently, Black Seed has
proved itself a forceful ally against many
ailments, such as those caused by bacteria,
viruses, and common allergies.
It
has also proved valuable against such
fatal diseases as cancer and AIDS.*
When it comes to health and well-being, a
strong immune system is vital, and the
properties of Black Seed are key to regaining
the efficient functioning of your immune system
and maintaining its optimum effectiveness.
Furthermore, Black Seed is a potent,
antihistamine, anti-tumour,* antibacterial, and
anti-inflammatory agent, and the application of
these actions alone provides relief for a
multitude of ailments and disorders.
Black
Seed's Mechanisms of Action
-
Analgesic: Relieves or dampens sensation of
pain.
-
Anthelmintic: (Also know as vermicide or
vermifuge) destroys and expels intestinal
worms.
-
Anti-bacterial: Destroys or inhibits the
growth of destructive bacteria.
-
Anti-Inflammatory: Reduces inflammation.
-
Anti-Microbial: Destroys or inhibits the
growth of destructive microorganisms.
-
Antioxidant: Prevents or delays the damaging
oxidisation of the body's cells -
particularly useful against free radicals.
-
Anti-Pyretic: (Also known as ferbrifuge) -
exhibits a 'cooling action', useful in fever
reduction.
-
Anti-spasmodic: Prevents or eases muscle
spasms and cramps.
-
Anti-tumour: Counteracts or prevents the
formation of malignant tumours*
-
Carminative: Stimulates digestion and
induces the expulsion of gas from the
stomach and the intestines.
-
Diaphoretic: Induces perspiration during
fever to cool and stimulate the release of
toxins.
-
Diuretic: Stimulates urination to relieve
bloating and rid the body of any excess
water.
-
Digestive: Stimulates bile and aids in the
digestive process.
-
Emmenagogue: Stimulates menstrual flow and
activity.
-
Galactogogue: Stimulates the action of milk
in new mothers.
-
Hypotensive: Reduces excess blood pressure.
-
Immunomodulator: Suppresses or strengthens
immune system activity as needed for optimum
balance.
-
Laxative: Causes looseness or relaxation of
the bowels.
Scientific research
Black
cumin oil contains nigellone, which protects g uinea
pigs from histamine-induced bronchial spasms
(perhaps explaining its use to relieve the
symptoms of asthma, bronchitis, and coughing).
The presence of an anti-tumor sterol,
beta-sitosterol, lends credence to its
traditional use to treat abscesses and tumors of
the abdomen, eyes, and liver.
Nigella
sativa oil has been reported to be effective in
treating opioid dependence.
Researchers at the Kimmel Cancer at
Jefferson in Philadelphia have found
that thymoquinone, an extract of nigella sativa
seed oil, blocked pancreatic cancer cell growth
and killed the cells by enhancing the process of
programmed cell death, (apoptosis). While the
studies are in the early stages, the findings
suggest that thymoquinone could eventually have
some use as a preventative strategy in patients
who have gone through surgery and chemotherapy
or in individuals who are at a high risk of
developing cancer.
The first major study of Nigella sativa
in cancer prevention and treatment was performed
by scientists at Cancer Immuno-Biology
Laboratory of Hilton Head Island, South
Carolina. They concluded that a healthy immune
system will detect and destroy cancer cells
before the cancer endangers the patient. The
immune system does this by supporting increased
production of immune cells, bone marrow cells,
and B-cells that produce antibodies. Black cumin
stimulates neutrophil activity. These are the
short-lived im mune
cells that are normally found in bone marrow but
mobilized into action when there is a bacterial
infection. Extracts of black cumin have also
been shown to modulate production of
interleukins, a quality it shares with some
other highly revered herbs: ginseng, astragalus,
mistletoe, garlic, and cat's claw.
In
animal studies, while none of the
subjects in the control group survived,
two-thirds of the mice that had been given black
cumin seed oil were still alive 30 days after
deliberate efforts to cause cancer in the
subject groups. Black cumin is particularly
useful in aggressive cancers whose growth
depends on angiogenesis.
In vitro
studies performed in Jordan and the United States have
determined that the volatile oil is anti-leukemic.
Studies performed in Spain as well as England found that the fixed oil is
useful in the treatment of rheumatism and other
inflammatory diseases. This property is
attributed to thymoquinone which is as high as
25% in the Egyptian seed and missing entirely is
some seeds.

Our practice
offers one of the best types of black
seed oil, called "King oil". It is 100%
pure natural cold-pressed oil from Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia is known for cultivating one of the
most rare species of black cumin seeds, which
has very distinctive strong spicy aroma and
taste. This type of oil is produced on a very
small scale, therefore it is very hard to find
and it is quite expensive. In the number of
Arabic medical books among other black seed oils
only this particular type of oil is praised for
its superior healing and medicinal properties.
Because of its high potency and certain
counter-indication, treatment course with this
oil is should be prescribed strictly on
individual basis by qualified natural therapist.
